I want to be remembered for making a positive difference. There are so much love, peace and positive change that’s yet to go out to every corner of the earth. I want to be among the contributors of these three essentialities. It’s important to know that many lives are attached to ours and how we do will ultimately affect how they do. I do not want to disappoint the lives of those God has assigned to be attached to mine, so therefore, I want to be remembered for making a positive difference in many lives no matter how small or big.

A unique moment for me as a Nigerian in England was the 2002 World cup, Nigeria was playing England. I was working at Tottenham Hotspur football, mentoring children, and we were screening the match with some Nigerian food and snacks. I was literally walking around Tottenham, North London in my Okocha Super Eagles Jersey. I got stares from people but I did not care as I was representing my country.

Due to circumstances, I’ve had to sleep in an airport but even when I slept there, I would wake up, get dressed and do what I should do. No one knew what was going on because I attended my meetings and I’d smile a lot regardless of my situation. You shouldn’t allow your situation to define you.

As much as I identify as British, I am fully formed in my Nigerian identity. I wasn’t born in the UK and didn’t grow up or go to school here and so that has probably influenced my connection to (and expression of) my British identity.

I’ve heard it said that your identity is the default language in which your thoughts speak. So I guess my identity is Nigerian with a slight British accent and a tinge of Yoruba nostalgia.

However, what is identity? Someone once said: “Identity is fickle. Identity isn’t set in stone, it is ever changing, and no one is ever enough of anything…” So I as I travel the world, I find that my identity is changing even more!

For me, success is something you know you have achieved for yourself and only for you. You have to really know what you want for yourself and do it and that is success! It can be as small as tidying your room to being as big as changing the world. I say this because a lot of my generation are now measuring success to what they see on social media and whilst it may prompt you it is not going to be yours – make your own success your own that’s when it becomes special because if it’s not yours, it only causes misery when you don’t get it.

My identity as a Nigerian helped me a lot. You could say I had two classes of friends which meant different experiences and characters to learn from. I could easily integrate myself with the Nigerian community because I know how they behave, what they eat, what ticks them off etc. At the same time, I could also integrate myself with other cultures. Therefore, I was usually found in diverse groups.

“Right now I am concentrating on producing high-quality knowledge and research to empower specific groups, to include different standpoints & experiences as well as to disrupt or “decolonise” the normality of current educational research. On the side, I engage in anything that empowers our people such as being part of groups that are actively making changes, blogging about positivity and travelling whenever I can. I definitely feel like I am on a journey which has thus far led me to many opportunities, people and experiences which I hope to encounter more of!”
